a fun little idea

Sunday night I was at a friend’s house. She was hosting a Mary Kay survey facial night thing-a-ma-jig and asked if I’d like to come. Always ready for a free facial, I said yes! We all laughed and had a great time while Julia, the Mary Kay lady, led us through a facial.

Let’s stop right there…

Have you ever done a full on Mary Kay facial from start to finish? Let me just tell you… your face feels like butter afterwards. It’s awesomesauce.

Anyways, at the end of the night, Julia – the Mary Kay lady – mentioned that she needed to do another survey party and would I like to host one? She may or may not have mentioned that the hostess gets a pretty swell gift… and I may or may not be doing this for said free gift.

But!

I had this little idea, and then I ran it by my friend Kristin – who I run most of my ideas by – and she said it was a good idea and “sounded like fun”… so, I’m going to share the idea with you…

What if we did this little Mary Kay survey together – kind of. I have spots for 4 people that I need to fill and I would absolutely LOVE to meet some of you!! I know there’s a ton of you out there who read my blog and never comment – maybe you found my blog through Brad’s Facebook page – he tells me all the time that you guys comment on the links he posts!

My point is… next Thursday night at 7pm, I’m going to have some diet coke wine and dessert, there will be a free facial, and we’re going to have a grand old time and I want YOU to be here! Well, four of you to be here ;-)

Leave a comment or email me at rebecca{at}thereluctanthw{dot}com and I’ll get in touch with you and give you directions to my casa!

You know you want to come….

Happy Wednesday Ya’ll!

ps… this is a ‘no strings attached’ Mary Kay party. She’s not here to sell anything… just do the facial and ask you what your favorite part of the process is. =)

Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday, Happy Mother’s Day

I think 30 will go down as one of my favorite years yet.

… I gave birth to Slade…

… I gave birth to a photography business…

… I came into my own as a mom, gained a sense of purpose…

… I started cooking…

… I found a church that feels more like ‘home’ than anything I’ve ever experienced…

… I started really finding my groove in my house…

… I made new friends…

… I spent more time at the beach than any other previous year in my life…

It was a good year. A darn good year.

And now, I’m 31.

I don’t know about you, but I love birthdays. It doesn’t bother me at all to grow another year older, although just a few months ago I did notice that my face doesn’t look nearly as young as I thought it did. {No worries, Kristin bought me 2 things of pore reducing cleanser for my birthday…. and I loved it. For real.} Saturday morning I woke up to nurse Slade and Zoe woke up pretty soon after and came into bed with us, and we just sat there… our family of 4… laughing and playing together and it hit me for the 1,000,000th time how incredibly blessed we are and how happy I am with my life.

Sunday Brad turned 38… 40 is 2 years away!!! We’re going to have to do something awesome for his 40th, I’m thinking cruise? Maybe??? This year was an interesting birthday for him, I think. It was pretty smooth sharing it with me for Mother’s Day. Which just means that it was a day of celebrating in general, and he got to take a nap.

And bonus… our birthdays are always right around Mother’s Day, and obviously this year on Mother’s Day. I think next year it’ll be MY birthday on Mother’s Day… and, next year my #1 priority is going to be to take a picture with my kids ON mother’s day! 3 years now, and I still haven’t taken one. I have a snapshot right before Zoe’s bedtime for the past 2 years, but no actual picture picture if you know what I mean. And this year, I don’t even think I picked up my camera once. Aside from that though, it was a flawless day.

A few days before, Brad and I ‘helped’ the kids make flower pots for our moms… it was something I saw on Pinterest, and the real life version included a ‘damn you Pinterest’ comment from Brad, me shrieking with delight when we finally got Slade to put his hand on the pot, Zoe running down the hall screaming and crying because ‘Mommy hurt my eardrums’, and smeared hand prints… but I love how they turned out.

Sunday was also the last day of Brad’s mandatory 2 weeks off from work, so when everything settled down in the evening and we were getting ready for bed it kinda hit us that we weren’t going to be together today. The two weeks together was a wonderful gift, and we loved every second of it {aside from the physical pain that Brad was in}. It was such a sweet time for our family… we’re definitely missing him today.

Hands down, it was a really great weekend.

Pictures will come soon =)
Happy Monday Ya’ll!
